Parbatti Valley, Manali

The valley in Manali provides a number of trekking options including a challenging trek over the Pin Parbatti Pass to Spiti. There is also a shorter trek from the roadhead at Manikaran to the hot springs at Khir Ganga.

From Manikaran the well-defined trail leads to the village Phulga. The next stage continues on up the Parbatti Valley, Manali to the hot springs at Khir Ganga. Here there are a number of teahouses to spend the night before returning back to Manikaran. The place is quite a laid-back one where in can spot some really beautiful nature scenes. If you are trekking further up in the valley, a tent and good sleeping bag are necessary. The trail follows the Parbatti Valley to the famous Pandu bridge, a natural rock bridge over the Parbatti River. It is a further stage across the rich alpine pastures to Mantakal Lake crossing the extensive moraine and boulder fields to the base of the Pin Parbatti Pass.

The pass itself is at the head of a small snow field and there are magnificent views of the main Himalaya range, while to the north is the stark Zanskar range. Once over the pass it is two stages to the village of Sangam where there is a daily bus service to Kasa, the headquarters of Spiti.
